CLOVER BUILD YOUR OWN SYSTEM
How I designed a 500% improvement to the discovery and purchase flow on Clover.com
Research / Product Design / Prototyping / ILLustration
The challenge
Prospective merchants visiting Clover.com found the purchase options confusing and too rigid. This was due to a lack of clarity about what was included and how the products compared to one another. Our goal was to design a better way to purchase a point-of-sale system.
The approach
Working closely with fellow designers, we brainstormed a bunch of ideas based on familiar purchasing experiences we've had online.
We landed on 2 potential directions that we tested internally and externally to get a consensus. I then created prototypes that we tested on merchants in order to finalize details a design decisions.
My role
I led design on the experience which included collaborating with my team on research, prototyping, visual design, and developer handoff.
The solution
We wanted to ensure prospective merchants would be able to understand and compare each part of the point-of-sale system they were considering purchasing. We broke out each part into an individual step. Merchants were now able to avoid cognitive overload along with allowing the space to include important information.
Outcomes and learnings
Post-launch we saw an increase in users getting to the cart increase by 500%. In addition, an unexpected outcome was an increase in order value by 8x. We hypothesized that because merchants fully understood what they were buying they felt more comfortable choosing everything they needed.
The team
I partnered with 2 designers, 2 product managers, and a content writer to uncover insights and translate concepts into features that addressed customer behaviours and motivations.
